This International Women’s Day, we join the global celebration of women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements, while recognising the incredible work happening across the renewable energy sector. This year, the theme of ‘Give to Gain’, championed by International Women's Day, highlights the importance of providing support, mentorship, and equal access to opportunities for women and girls. It’s a reminder that when we actively invest in one another, we all move forward together.

Women remain significantly underrepresented in the renewable energy sector, despite the industry’s rapid growth and forward-thinking mission. While clean energy is often positioned as the future, gender diversity within the field has not advanced at the same pace. Across engineering, technical installation, and leadership roles, women continue to face barriers to entry and progression.

At Solarport, we believe the transition to clean energy should be powered by inclusion as well as innovation. That’s why we’re committed to doing things differently. We’re actively working to increase representation, create opportunities, and build a more diverse future within our organisation.

Increase In Female Representation

Averaging 32%, the share of women in the renewables workforce is higher than in traditional energy sectors (Source: Irena, 2025).

Over the past year, we’ve seen a 112% increase in female representation at Solarport, meaning that women now make up a third of our workforce. Importantly, this growth isn’t limited to traditionally female roles, as women are actively shaping and leading our innovation, sales, engineering, marketing and legal departments. At the leadership level, 42.86% of our board members are women, reflecting our commitment to diverse decision-making across the company.

Dedicated Women’s Forum

However, creating opportunities goes beyond the numbers. At Solarport, we also have a dedicated women’s forum, a space for collaboration, support, mentorship and championing one another. The women’s forum hosts quarterly lunches where women from across the company, including remote workers, come together to discuss key topics, share experiences and explore how we can support one another.

WiSEu Partnership

Women in Solar+ Europe (WiSEu) play a vital role in championing inclusive innovation, supporting a sector where people, technologies, and perspectives come together to build solutions that are resilient and future-focused. At Solarport, we recognise the importance of this. Strong engineering, responsible operations and industry-leading product development can only make their full impact when the environment around them is accessible, fair and representative.

Our General Counsel and Chief Corporate Officer, Gemma Buckley, serves as a Global Leader for WiSEu. Through our collaboration with WiSEu, we are aligning with a group dedicated to expanding opportunities for professionals across the sector and to helping ensure the energy transition is strengthened by the breadth of perspectives required for long-term success.
