Behind every project we secure, every Solarport achievement and success, there is a team of passionate, driven and talented people who make it possible. From innovative problem-solvers and strategic thinkers to the steady hands who keep everything running day to day, our team is one of our greatest strengths.
Today, we’re proud to spotlight Alice Thomas, one of our Technical Solutions Managers.
We sat down with Alice to learn more about her journey into renewables, what drives her passion for utility-scale projects, and the expertise she brings to Solarport every day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and explain your role at Solarport?
Alice: I’m a Technical Solutions Manager at Solarport.
I joined the company in May 2023 as an Administrator and moved into the Sales Team a year later. I now work primarily on utility-scale projects, analysing layouts, reviewing pull-out testing and ground investigation reports, and helping clients find the most technically appropriate and cost-effective solution for their sites.
I love the balance between technical detail and client collaboration; no two projects are ever the same.
What initially attracted you to work in the solar industry, and how did you begin working at Solarport?
Alice: The way I joined Solarport is actually a bit of a funny one.
I was coming to the end of my ski season and realised I should probably line up a job for when I got home. I updated my CV on Indeed and thought nothing of it. The next day, a recruiter called me about a role at Solarport.
I ended up having my very first interview in an airport lounge, and within a week of landing back in the UK, I had the job. Safe to say it was one of the best calls I’ve ever taken.
What motivates you about working in renewable energy and sustainability?
Alice: I love being part of an industry that’s making a tangible difference.
Working in renewables feels purposeful; we’re contributing to infrastructure that will generate clean energy for decades. It’s motivating knowing that the work we do today has long-term environmental impact, and that every project plays a role in the wider energy transition.
How do you see solar technology evolving over the next 5 – 10 years, and where do you think Solarport will play a part in that?
Alice: I think we’ll continue to see projects scale up significantly, both in size and complexity. Utility-scale solar is becoming more sophisticated, with smarter design tools and increasingly rigorous site investigations becoming standard practice.
I also think durability and long-term performance will become even more important, such as corrosion assessments, topography-led design, and adaptable foundation solutions.
Solarport will play a part by continuing to focus on engineering-led solutions, UK manufacturing strength, and making sure quality keeps pace with scale.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in Solar?
Alice: Say yes to opportunities and don’t be intimidated by the technical side.
The industry is full of people willing to teach, and you don’t need to know everything on day one. Curiosity, communication skills, and a willingness to learn go a long way.
It’s an exciting sector to be in, fast-growing, impactful, and full of opportunity.
What is one memorable moment, experience or achievement you’ve had at Solarport?
Alice: Closing my first large utility-scale project will always stand out.
Seeing something go from a layout on a screen, through site investigations and engineering reviews, to an actual signed project was a huge milestone for me.
What made it even more special was that the project was for an EV charging station. A little while later, I actually got to visit the site once it was live and charge my own EV there.
That full-circle moment, from design to reality, was pretty unforgettable.
Lastly, if you could install your own solar farm anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Alice: Italy, without a doubt.
It’s my favourite country, and it combines sunshine, beautiful landscapes, and (very importantly) great food. I love the idea of designing a solar project somewhere scenic, maybe rolling countryside or near the coast, and then having a very good excuse to visit regularly “for site inspections.”
Solar, sunshine, and pasta sound like a winning combination to me.

We’re very grateful to work alongside people who care deeply about their work and the impact we create.
Team members like Alice embody the passion, precision, and problem-solving mindset that define Solarport. As we continue to grow and take on new challenges, it’s this shared commitment that ensures we deliver lasting value for our clients and the wider renewables sector.
