In House Legal Counsel

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced In-House Legal Counsel to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal guidance and support across all aspects of our business operations, with a primary focus on negotiating contracts with suppliers and customers. Additionally, the In-House Legal Counsel will oversee compliance efforts, including ensuring that the company's skilled worker visa requirements are up to date and fully compliant with relevant laws and regulations, as well as overseeing employment matters and continuing to develop company policies, including ESG initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Contract Negotiation and Management:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts with suppliers and customers, including procurement agreements, supply agreements, distribution agreements, and service contracts.

  • Ensure that contracts are in compliance with company policies and legal requirements, while also protecting the company's interests and mitigating risks.· Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including sales, logistics, operations, procurement, and finance teams, to develop contract terms that meet business objectives while minimising legal exposure.

Compliance Oversight:

  • Stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to manufacturing, contract law, and where relevant, immigration.

  • Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to applicable legal requirements.

  • Consult with immigration solicitors, monitor changes in immigration laws and regulations to ensure that the company's skilled worker visa requirements remain up to date and compliant.

  • Conduct periodic audits and reviews to assess compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Development of Company Policies, Including ESG Initiatives:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and enhance company policies, particularly those related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives.

  • Conduct research and analysis to identify emerging ESG trends and best practices in the solar development and manufacturing industries.

  • Draft and implement policies and procedures to promote sustainability, diversity, and ethical business practices throughout the organisation.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of company policies and initiatives, recommending adjustments as needed to align with evolving legal requirements and business objectives.

Legal Advisory and Risk Management:

  • Provide legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on a wide range of legal issues, including contract interpretation, risk assessment, and dispute resolution.

  • Assess potential legal risks associated with business activities and develop strategies to mitigate such risks.

  • Collaborate with external legal counsel when necessary, managing relationships and ensuring cost-effective legal services.

Training and Education:

  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on legal and compliance matters relevant to their roles and to ensure all contractual requirements are met.

  • Provide guidance and support to internal teams on best practices for contract management, compliance, and risk avoidance.


  • Qualified solicitor in the UK, with a minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in commercial law, contract negotiation, compliance, and employment matters.

  • Solid understanding of contract law principles and experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial contracts.

  • Experience in the manufacturing or renewable energy industry is preferred but not required.

  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations.

  • Experience in developing and implementing company policies, including ESG initiatives, is highly desirable.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive legal matters.
